Banana bread is an easy and inexpensive treat that can be enjoyed for breakfast or as a snack and dessert. I’d love to hear in the comments what you added to your loaf!

Vegan Banana Bread Ingredients:

  • 3 ripe bananas: The spottier and darker, the better! Ripe bananas contain more sugar, which in turn makes the bread even sweeter. If you only have yellowish-green bananas, don’t worry you can still make this recipe! Scroll down for instructions on how to quickly ripen bananas.
  • 1/3 cup of coconut oil, melted: Vegetable oil works as well.
  • 1/2 cup of organic cane sugar: It’s best to buy organic sugar to ensure it’s vegan (if you are vegan).
  • 1/4 cup of unsweetened apple sauce
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon of salt
  • 1 1/2 cups of all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon of baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup of vegan semisweet chocolate chips (plus more on top): Usually I buy the regular semisweet chocolate chips from my grocery store because they have some that don’t contain dairy products. If you can’t find any near you, then I recommend ordering some on Amazon like the Enjoy Life Vegan Semisweet Chocolate Chips.

No spotty bananas? Here’s how to quickly ripen bananas in the oven:

You can quickly ripen bananas by baking them at 300 F on a parchment-lined baking sheet for 15-20 until blackened and soft.

Let them cool down on the baking sheet before peeling off the skin and transferring them to a bowl. Allow them to cool completely before using them in this recipe.

How to make Chocolate Chip Banana Bread:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350˚F (180˚C).
  2. In a large bowl, add the three ripe bananas and mash with the back of a fork until smooth. Add 1/3 cup of coconut oil and stir until well combined.
  3. Add 1/2 cup of sugar, 1/4 cup of apple sauce, 1 teaspoon of vanilla, 1 1/2 cups of flour, 1 teaspoon of baking soda, 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon, and a pinch of salt. Stir until the batter is evenly combined.
  4. Add 1/2 cup of chocolate chips and mix. Pour the batter into a greased 9×5 loaf pan, then sprinkle more chocolate chips on top.
  5. Bake for 55 minutes to an hour. Until a toothpick comes out clean.
  6. Let it cool completely before slicing and serving.
