About

Hey, I’m Maria!

I’m a self-taught vegan home cook and food photographer.

AKA your go-to girl for delicious vegan recipes that anybody can make.

My hope is to help you feel more confident in the kitchen with recipes that are easy and healthy.

Let’s get real

  • My favorite thing in the entire world is food (shocker). I’ve been a foodie since I was a child. Chocolate desserts are my favorite but I love a bit of everything!
  • I’m a huge animal lover, and I have an adorable cat named Nero.
  • My love for food started from a young age because I’d always watch my grandmother in the kitchen. She’s a wonderful cook and bakes the most beautiful desserts. Her attention to detail inspires me.
  • I’m very close to my family, and my parent’s backgrounds have influenced my cooking so much. My mother is from Maracaibo, Venezuela, and my father is from Nottingham, England.
  • I’m super chill and a real homebody. My ideal Friday night is cuddling up on the couch with my boyfriend and watching a good show/movie.
  • Having good mental health is essential since I deal with anxiety. Consistently practicing meditation, yoga, and gentle walks in nature has helped me tremendously.

Why I’m vegan

Back in 2015, I watched my first video about veganism: The Greatest Speech You’ll Ever Hear.  I was utterly shocked about the truth behind factory farming. That led me to binge-watch even more vegan documentaries like Earthlings and Forks Over Knives.

I was in disbelief, angry, and disgusted by everything I had learned. I knew I had to make a change, but a vegan diet was drastically different than the diet I had at the time. I tried going vegan overnight but failed quickly.

At the time, I was in the thick of my binge eating disorder, so creating food restrictions was nearly impossible for me. I started by cutting out meat (not including fish), and over a long period of time, I transitioned and healed my eating disorder. It was a very slow process, but I knew the end goal was to be fully vegan, and I have been now for over three years.

I’m grateful for my slower transition because I created a very balanced diet with a healthy mindset around food.

When I first learned about veganism, I would try to watch vegan recipe videos on YouTube, but this was when Freelee The BananaGirl, Rawvana, and FullyRawKristina were the main videos. I have no hate for them, but I could never eat a mainly raw diet like theirs. I love fruits and veg, but I needed meals that were more balanced and high in protein.

That’s why I developed my cooking skills and photography to share my healthy and delicious vegan meals with you. I like to make the comfort food I used to enjoy, but vegan now. Going vegan is a lot easier than you think. You just need some good recipes in your weekly rotation.
