These shredded tofu tacos are perfect for nights your cravings something flavorful and easy to make. I love tofu because it’s basically like a sponge that absorbs any flavor, and the shredded texture makes it crispy.
Shredded Tofu Ingredients:
- 2 tablespoons of Oil
- 1/2 cup of Onion, diced
- 1 block of Extra Firm Tofu, shredded
- 3 tablespoons of Soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon of Taco Seasoning (mild or spicy)
- 2 teaspoons of Smoked Paprika
- 1 tablespoon of Nutritional Yeast
- Juice of 1 Lime
For Serving:
- Small Flour or Corn Tortillas, warmed up
- Toppings: Sliced Avocado, Chopped Cilantro, Lime Juice, Salsa, Vegan Cheese, and any other toppings of your choice.
Utensils You’ll Need:
- Grater with large holes
- Large Frying Pan
How to make shredded tofu tacos:
Prep the dice onion. Drain the tofu and pat it dry with paper towels. Place a grater with large holes on a cutting board or a clean surface.
Hold the tofu firmly and slide it across the grater. Be careful of your fingers as you grate! Continue grating until the entire block of tofu is shredded.
Set a large pan to medium heat. Add 3 tablespoons of oil and cook the diced onion for a couple of minutes.
Add in the shredded tofu, soy sauce, taco seasoning, paprika, nutritional yeast, and lime juice. Saute for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally. The tofu should become slightly crispy and golden brown.
While the tofu is cooking, warm your tortillas or taco shells according to package instructions. You can warm them on a stovetop, in the oven, or in a microwave.
Once the shredded tofu is cooked to your desired texture, remove it from the heat, and begin assembling your tacos.
Spoon some of the shredded tofu onto the tortillas or taco shells. Add your favorite toppings such as sliced avocado, chopped cilantro, lime juice, salsa, vegan cheese, and any other toppings of your choice.
